Expert Blog - Favourite thing about the outdoors

We asked our OLPRO ambassadors what their favourite thing about the great outdoors is in the hope that it will inspire you for your next outdoor adventure this summer!

Wild Swimming

Natalie Ray recommends going wild swimming! Natalie loves “the freedom that wild swimming offers as well as getting to be in touch with nature, and anyone can do it as there is no expensive equipment needed and it’s free!” Whilst it can be incredibly fun to go wild swimming with your friends and family, Natalie also believes that it has had some great health benefits for her such as strengthening her immune system! Natalie also recommends giving winter swimming a try because the cold water therapy has many benefits for your physical and mental health!

In the Moment

Shell from Camping with Style says that her favourite thing about the great outdoors is that “it anchors her to live in the here and now, which is great for your mental health”. Being in the outdoors allows you to escape from the hustle and bustle of life and take time to relax and appreciate the small things like the birds chirping, the incredible views and the sense of being at one with nature.

A well Deserved Break

Cassie from Manic Mum days says that her favourite thing about the outdoors is getting to spend time with her family exploring. “The break in routine and the peace we feel in nature just lifts us all so much. A break from the stresses of work and school is always so valued and enjoyed”.

Wholesome

Nyomi Winter says that her favourite part about the outdoors is how wholesome it is! It’s less time on the screens and more time to be back to basics. Nyomi also loves “how great it is to breathe some fresh air back into life” as well as getting to enjoy seeing her kids run wild and free which makes it incredibly fulfilling for her to be in the great outdoors.

Enjoying Life

Claire from Tin Box Traveller says that her favourite part about the outdoors is “getting out in the fresh air and away from the busyness of life at home is such a tonic”. She loves that feeling of physical tiredness that her family have at the end of each day of outdoor fun and living. “There really is nothing better than sitting beside our van with a cooling glass of something nice and watching the kids use up every last jot of energy playing in the great outdoors”.

Peace

Lee Barton from nearly wild camping says that his favourite thing about the outdoors is the how nice it is to be “far enough away from roads that you can no longer hear traffic noise and then the sounds of nature take over. The sound of the breeze through the trees is said to be one of the most relaxing sounds to enjoy a good night's sleep”.

The Great Outdoors

Caro from the Twinkle Diaries says that she “can’t pinpoint one thing that she loves about the outdoors. Reconnecting with nature is such a tonic. A full day spent in the fresh air always results in the best nights sleep afterwards — for adults and children alike”. Caro loves being so close to wildlife too. Caro and her family can spend hours listening to owls and watching bats, whilst sitting outside the van in the evenings. Some of Caro’s most memorable times have been stargazing, with her friends, whilst they’ve been camping. The first shooting star of the year is always a magical sight.

Quality Time

John and Jackie from T4.family said that their favourite thing about the great outdoors is spending “quality time together as a family”. There is nothing like being away with the ones you love, getting to make unforgettable memories, explore together and most of all take time away from the real world to escape and be in each other’s company.
